Well, the twinkle lights are down in Old Town, but Great Plates is returning for its 21st year! If you’re newer to the area, Great Plates is a campaign put on by the Larimer County Food Bank every year to raise funds for their organization – and it gets wild involvement from businesses and consumers alike (I.e. going out to eat multiple times in a week.. But it’s for a good cause so..)
Great Plates is the 1-14th of March every year, and many restaurants in Fort Collins like to get involved – Here is a link to the Official Menu:
Restaurants curate special menus for $5. $15, $25, $35, or $45. When you buy the meal, it’s usually for a discounted rate that the restaurants donate back to the Food Bank. There are also options for you to donate at the restaurant as well! The menus are usually only offered at this time of year and are special for this event, or they may have a regular menu item that is discounted. So make sure you mark your calendars and make a reservation for your favorite date night spot!
Some restaurants this year are doing multiple deals and offer different options at different price points. Sam and I will often use this opportunity to try a new place that may be normally more than we want to spend, but under GPs it’s a good deal! This year, they also have a section noted on each restaurant if they can accommodate for food allergies- super neat!
Our personal favorites and one’s I think are a great deal are:
Beaujo’s - Cheesy bread and a Medium pizza to split for $25. We always add the Black Cherry Mules there and that is a cheap date!
Big Al’s - If you’re in a bind in Old Town for lunch, stop at Big Al’s and grab their 60/40 Burger for only $5! Nothing cheaper than that.
Austin’s - They’ve been doing great plates for years and this year they have 6 different options, including a carry out one that will definitely feed a family of 4-6.
Blue Agave- 3 Words: Top Shelf Enchiladas. They are on special for Great Plates! Make your Resi now!
Duchess Tea Room- This place is so cute (featured in my last month’s article) and they are doing a 4 Course meal for 2 for $45.
Lu Lu Asian Bistro – By far the best deal out there in my opinion- Spring Roll or Edamame App, and 3 entrees or 3 Specialty Rolls for $25! I'm pretty sure this deal has stayed the same for like 4 years now.. So word’s definitely gotten out about how good a deal this is. Definitely plan to go early (they don’t take reservations)!
Have any personal favorites or one's you're excited to try? Let me know. Happy eating for a good cause!
